Devils Backbone brewery in the USA is located in the Blue Ridge Mountains in Virginia. Not far from the brewery lies the famous Appalachian Trail, a 3,500 km long hiking trail that runs between the states of Maine and Georgia.

Customers have often remarked to the brewers how much they would like to hike the way from Georgia to Maine if they had enough time. As a result, the brewery decided to sponsor a happy hiker and hire him or her as CHO, Chief Hiking Officer. According to the brewery, the winner of the initiative will be flown to the starting point of the trail and supported with equipment and money.
